Security & Encryption

Using double layer, end-to-end, military-grade encryption software, Seecrypt affords individuals and corporations a high level of secure voice and text messaging security, wherever they might be. Each and every call or text message is encrypted on the device with a unique key for each session. This affords maximum protection when communicating with another trusted Seecrypt user.

By using narrowband and adaptive voice compression, Seecrypt is extremely conservative on data usage, consuming data well below the current benchmark of standard voice applications. Seecrypt operates securely over any Internet-connected network worldwide, from Mobile (2G/EDGE, 3G, 4G/LTE) to Wi-Fi, to Satellite Broadband networks, making calling and messaging more cost effective. This is a major benefit to users with poor cellular coverage or those who suffer on congested networks.

Seecrypt Cryptography

The cryptographic protocols and processes within the Seecrypt application allow two devices to establish a secure end-to-end session between the two devices.

When Alice (device A) communicates with Bob (device B) a key exchange takes place, after which the two users can opt to trust each other in future communications by comparing the exchanged public keys.

The exchanged public keys are used to encrypt all data transferred between the two devices. Two different public-key systems (RSA and ECDSA/ECDH) are used for the key negotiation and authentication, and two different stream ciphers (AES in counter mode and RC4) are used for the data encryption.

Two different stream ciphers are used so that even if one of each pair of algorithms is broken, the remaining algorithm will still protect the plaintext information.

When Seecrypt is installed on the user’s device the application generates a public and private pair of 2048-bit RSA keys using a SHA512 hash, and a 384-bit elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA) key using a SHA384 hash

Session Keys

Both Alice and Bob apply an identical pseudo random function to generate sufficient key material to derive keys for RC4 and AES encryption. The session keys are unique for each session and the uplink and downlink channels are secured independently. A summary of the key is displayed during the call so that both parties can authenticate each other verbally.

Symmetric Cryptography

The session keys are used together with the keystreams to encrypt all traffic using RC4 and AES. Standard information security techniques are used to ensure that the streams are protected from buffer overflow and initial keystream weaknesses.

The improvements to the messaging service include: Faster messaging – the new messaging services is considerably faster than the old one. More than one message can be sent at a time allowing for a smoother messaging experience. Sending messages to users who are offline is now possible, recipients will receive their messages once they reconnect to the Seecrypt network.
